Caroni 23 Years Old 1998 Golden Devil is a single barrel Caroni rum, bottled by Edition Spirits exclusively for K&L Wines. The rum was distilled in 1998 and matured for 23 years. It was bottled in 2021 at a cask strength of 62.4%. The independent bottling company Edition Spirits Ltd. was founded by Andrew and Scott Laing, the sons of Hunter Laing director Stewart Laing. Their series featuring vintage single cask rums, Kill Devil, is named after the original word for a Caribbean drink distilled from sugar. In the United States the range is called Golden Devil, because another company owns the rights to the brand name Kill Devil. The state-run Caroni Distillery on the Caribbean island of Trinidad was a famous producer of heavy rums in the 20th century, but the island’s sugar-growing industry collapsed and the distillery was shut down in 2002. The majority of its remaining stock is in the hands of the Italian bottling company Velier, led by rum expert Luca Gargano.
