Caroni 23 Years Old Rum Nation Rare Rums 1998 is a rare limited-edition rum from the legendary closed Caroni distillery in Trinidad, released by Italian independent bottler Rum Nation. The rum was distilled in 1998 and first aged in traditional oak casks in a tropical climate, creating an intense profile with a tarry and heavily tannic taste. It was then mellowed out a bit by a seven-year finish in an ex-sherry whisky cask, and bottled in 2021 at a cask strength of 55.4%. The result is a complex rum with those classic Caroni notes of black liquorice, aniseed and coffee, but with an intriguing extra layer of juicy fruitiness, pastry cookies and raisins. Only 860 bottles of Caroni 23 Years Old Rum Nation Small Batch Rare Rums 1998 have been released.
