The Caroni distillery has been closed since 2002, but Polish independent bottler Jack Tar managed to get its hands on some of these rare casks of rum! Caroni La Lune Cask #84 Jack Tar 1997 is a single cask rum, distilled in 1997 and bottled in March 2021 at a cask strength of 61.3%. The Cosmos series, featuring two single cask Caroni rums, is dedicated to the celestial bodies that have been powerful symbols ever since the dawn of humanity: Le Soleil (The Sun) and La Lune (The Moon). The nose of La Lune is immediately intense with typical Caroni aromas of brown sugar, tropical fruit, dark chocolate, cough syrup, burnt rubber, oily petrol and herbal oak spice. The palate is powerful, as can be expected from this strength, and reveals an explosion of flavours. Molasses, chilli pepper, golden syrup, mango, blood orange and diesel, as well as some fresh notes of gentle oak and menthol. The intensity continues on the finish, which is mouthcoating with brown sugar, marmalade, soft oak and peppery heat. Only 225 bottles of Caroni La Lune Cask #84 Jack Tar 1997 have been released.
