By working hand in hand with local producers, Clande aims to revive the once flourishing Mexican traditional spirits industry. Spirits such as sotol, mezcal and lechuguilla are a staple of Mexican culture and used to be produced by artisan distillers known as ‘Vinatas.’ These were clandestine distilleries (hence the name Clande) that were eventually suppressed by the government in the early 1900s. Clande Sotol Lot No. 8 Ensamble Joven 2019 is made from 80% dasylirion wheeleri and 20% agave shrevei by Maestro Sotolero Bienvenido Fernandez. The plants are cooked together and then fermented in a stainless steel fermentation tank and distilled in a copper pot still. These artisan spirits are released in teeny tiny batches with only 192 bottles of this Sotol out there. You can be sure sotol lovers everywhere will be scrambling to get their hands on them.
