This Clynelish single malt from cask no. 13217 was distilled on 30 October 1991. It was bottled at 21 years old in September 2013 by the Dutch independent bottler Van Wees, for their internationally acclaimed ‘The Ultimate’ series. Only 292 bottles were released. The label shows a classic Scottish distillery, with the pagoda roofs that are so typical for Scottish distilleries. These pagodas, officially called ‘Doig Ventilators’ were invented in 1889 by the architect Charles C. Doig. They improve the outflow of smoke from the kiln where barley is dried. Most distilleries don’t malt their own barley anymore, but the pagodas are still a trademark of Scottish whisky, and Doig is praised as one of the greatest distilling innovators of the late 19th century.
