Colonel E.H. Taylor Amaranth – Grain of the Gods

Even though the Colonel E.H. Taylor Amaranth – Grain of the Gods has no age statement, Buffalo Trace claims it has matured well over ten years, which is pretty decent. But that is not the best story that can be told about this bourbon, no sir. Amaranth is actually a seed coming from Latin America, but it resembles grain. It was used in the mash bill of this gem. The Aztecs grew these crops to use in numerous products (not bourbon though). Using it in bourbon is highly experimental – it’s the first time that Amaranth was used this way. This tenth release in the Colonel E. H. Taylor is now highly sought after. Looking at this product description, we have come to realise that the name ‘Grain of the Gods’ is technically incorrect, as Amaranth is not a grain. We understand why the marketing people over at Buffalo Trace changed it, though…
