The Myths & Legends range from the Scottish whisky producer Compass Box was created to challenge the many myths and legends that exist in the Scotch whisky industry. Sometimes, upholding the sanctity of traditional ideas can restrict distilleries and independent bottlers from exploring the full potential of whisky. The first release in the series is a single malt from Balblair, made by blending two very different batches from the same Highland distillery. The first whisky was distilled in 1997 and matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, the second was distilled in 2003 and aged in re-charred American oak. Compass Box’s whiskymakers want to prove that it is not merely a distillery’s region that dictates the flavour: the casks used have an even larger influence. Compass Box Myths & Legends I was bottled in July 2019 at 46%. Only 4394 bottles have been released.
