The Scottish whisky producer Compass Box created the Myths & Legends range to challenge some popular notions in the Scotch industry. Sometimes, upholding the sanctity of traditional ideas can restrict distilleries and independent bottlers from exploring the full potential of whisky. The second release in the series is a single malt from the Speyside distillery Glen Elgin. The Speyside region is known for a very specific flavour profile, but Compass Box stresses that a whisky’s provenance should not lead to quick presumptions about its flavours. Instead, the process largely influences the taste. Compass Box Myths & Legends II is a combination of six different malts from the Glen Elgin distillery. All have different ages and matured in different types of casks: recharred American oak barrels, refill bourbon hogsheads, recharred American oak hogsheads, and refill sherry butts. Compass Box Myths & Legends II was bottled in July 2019 at 46%. Only 4446 bottles have been released.
