This Is Not A Luxury Whisky is a blended whisky from Compass Box. Named after René Magritte’s Ceci n’est pas une pipe, this whisky asks us to consider what a luxury whisky really is. The common idea is that a luxury whisky by definition is rare and expensive, but Compass Box maintains that ‘luxury’ should principally be about the character of the whisky itself. This Is Not A Luxury Whisky consists for 79% of a 19-year-old Glen Ord that matured in a first-fill sherry butt. The other components are a 40-year-old Strathclyde grain whisky, a 40-year-old Girvan grain whisky and a 30-year-old malt from Caol Ila; these all matured in ex-bourbon casks. The whisky was bottled in July 2015 at 53.1%. Only 4992 bottles have been released.
