Craigduff was an experimental peated Speyside single malt produced for a short amount of time in the early 1970s. Independent bottler Signatory Vintage has released a handful of single cask bottlings, but no official bottling was ever made available. It was originally believed that the whisky came from Strathisla, but Signatory Vintage later came to the conclusion that Craigduff was most likely distilled at the neighbouring Glen Keith distillery, also owned by Chivas Brothers. Chivas Brothers, however, disputed this claim and so the history of Craigduff remains hazy. What makes Craigduff even more interesting is that it is ‘double peated’: the whisky was made with lightly peated barley, and in addition 10 gallons of concentrated peated water was added to the wash before distillation. Craigduff 32 Years Old Signatory Vintage 1973 Cask #2513 is a curious collector’s item, of which only 566 bottles were released. The whisky was distilled on 4 April 1973 and matured for 32 years in sherry butt #2513. It was bottled on 25 August 2005 at a cask strength of 49.4%.
