Craigellachie, located in the heart of Speyside, has been quietly distilling its whisky since 1891. It was relatively unknown until 2014, when several new single malts were launched. The oldest expression in the distillery’s core range is the Craigellachie 23 Years Old. A long slumber in oak casks allowed the flavour to develop beautifully. First-fill ex-bourbon casks bring vanilla, toffee and fudge notes, while first-fill ex-sherry casks provide richness and complexity. On the nose you’ll find malty sweetness, fresh tropical fruit, citrus and toasted oak. Vanilla, cinnamon, menthol and charred pineapple build on the palate. The finish is long and lingering with sweet and spicy hints.
