Dailuaine comes from the Gaelic ‘An dail uaine’ which means ‘green valley’ and it’s been working away up there in the Spey valley since it was opened by William Mackenzie in 1852, mostly producing whisky for blends. Unfortunately it has had a tendency to burn down, with a fire in 1917 destroying the pagoda roof and forcing it to close, and another in 1959 causing extensive damage. Each time the distillery has been rebuilt though and it is still going strong. Distillery bottlings of Dailuaine single malt are few and far between so it’s up to bottlers like Sansibar to bring us the good stuff. This Dailuaine 10 Years Old Finest Whisky Berlin 2011 was distilled in 2011 and aged for 10 years in bourbon casks before Sansibar bottled it up for us all to enjoy.
