The Fleischmann brothers made their fortune by producing a special kind of yeast that revolutionised the baking industry. But they also had quite a hand in the distilling industry, with their first distillery in Riverside, Ohio opening in 1870. They produced all the good stuff—gin, vodka and bourbon—and after the company made its way through prohibition they moved the distillery to Owensboro, Kentucky. It’s here that this Daviess County 4 Years Old was produced for export to the Italian market. It has a nose of blackcurrants, grapes, sweet corn and a touch of violet. The palate is creamy with sweet oak, blueberry, leather and spices. The palate also has a dash of cream with spices and papaya.
