The town of Dufftown is said to have the highest concentration of distilleries in the world. In fact the locals even say “Rome was built on seven hills, Dufftown stands on seven stills.” Clearly they love their whisky in this part of the world! The Dufftown distillery was originally called the Dufftown-Glenlivet Distillery and was founded in 1895. Arthur Bell and Sons bought the distillery early in the 20th century and since then the vast majority of Dufftown’s output has been used for their blends. But you occasionally come across a single malt bottling such as this Dufftown 11 Years Old The Managers’ Choice 1997 Cask #8153. The nose is spicy and fresh with floral notes, polished oak, grass and rosewater. The palate is waxy and thick, with honey, vanilla, malt and citrus with a touch of licorice. The finish is long and smooth with wood and ginger.
