Urban legend tells us that as well as running a distillery in Georgetown Kentucky, Reverend Elijah Craig was also pretty tight with his money. So tight that when a fire broke out and charred some barrels that were to store his pure corn whiskey he didn’t just throw the barrels out. He filled them right up alongside the untouched ones. By happy accident it turns out this charring gives the whiskey a smoother and richer flavor and these days it’s standard practice to char bourbon barrels. Elijah Craig 12 Years Old has a vanilla and oak nose with a slightly spicy palate of pineapple, honey and pepper. The finish is long and glowing.
