Elijah Craig 12 Years Old 1994 is a small-batch bourbon from the Heaven Hill distillery. It aged for 12 years and is bottled at 94 proof. Heaven Hill introduced the Small Batch bottling of Elijah Craig in 1986. The 12 year age statement was removed in 2016, but this dusty from the 2000s still carries it proudly! The 18th-century Reverend Elijah Craig was the first distiller to use charred oak barrels to age bourbon. In addition to preaching, the Reverend founded several businesses in the settlement that today is known as Georgetown, Kentucky. As the story goes, one day a small fire broke out at his Royal Spring Mill, charring the barrels inside. Instead of throwing out the barrels, the frugal Reverend decided to use them anyway. And as it turned out, the whiskey aged in these charred barrels was much smoother and richer, with a distinctive color and flavor. Elijah Craig’s invention became a standard in the whiskey industry, earning him the nickname ‘The Father of Bourbon’.
