On July 16 2013, bourbon legend Elmer T. Lee passed away at age 93. He was Master Distiller at Buffalo Trace for 36 years, he was the creative mind behind Blanton’s (and thus the creative father of modern day single barrel bourbon), name bearer of his own brand of bourbon and he was a World War II veteran. A man that truly made a mark on his profession and the world around him.
Colonel Albert B. Blanton told him to look for a job elsewhere, when he came to look for work at the George T. Stagg distillery in 1949. Blanton’s protégé Orville Schupp told Elmer to come in for work a week later anyway. Little did both legends know that they had just hired a legend of the future. This Elmer T. Lee Commemorative Edition came out in April 2014 and honors the life of the legend.
