Foursquare Redoutable Exceptional Cask Selection is a single blended rum from the Foursquare distillery in Barbados. The blend of pot still and column still rums matured for 14 years in ex-bourbon and ex-Madeira casks, before being bottled in 2020 at a hefty cask strength of 61% ABV. Just like the other releases in the Exceptional Cask Selection, Redoutable has a fancy name: redoutable is a French and Middle English word meaning ‘formidable, worthy of respect’. The Foursquare distillery was reopened in 1996 by the Seale family. It is located on a former sugar plantation that was founded around 1720. The sugar factory ceased production in the late 1980s, so Foursquare imports most of its molasses from Guyana. The distillery is currently led by Richard Seale, a fourth-generation member of a family that has been in the rum business since 1820.
