George Morton High Proof OVD Demerara Rum is a vintage bottle of Old Vatted Demerara rum from Guyana, bottled in the 1980s by rum specialist George Morton & Co. In 1838, George Morton was the first company to import OVD rum from Guyana to Scotland. The rum is bottled at 57.1% ABV, or 100 proof in the obsolete British imperial system. Demerara rum comes from the region in Guyana that was once the Dutch, and later British, colony of Demerara. It is made with the finest sugarcane grown on the banks of the Demerara River. All but one of the rum distilleries in Guyana have since been closed down, so this 1980s bottle of George Morton High Proof OVD Demerara Rum is truly a rare relic from a bygone era.
