Before he turned his hand to whisky making, James Grant was a bit of a rabble rouser. He led the last clan revolt in Scottish history, and to this day you can still see his tartan waistcoat on display at the Glen Grant distillery. This lovable rogue teamed up with his brother John and obtained a distilling licence in 1839. They had the foresight to take advantage of the new railway systems that were springing up over Britain and founded the Morayshire Railway Company to carry supplies from the port at Lossiemouth to Elgin. Later their nephew would install electric lighting, a new still design and purifiers and a 22 acre garden to show off the exotic plants and fruits he collected on his world travels! Glen Grant Gordon & Macphail 1968-2010 was distilled all the way back in 1968 and aged for over four decades, before being bottled up by renowned bottlers Gordon & Macphail. The whisky has a nose of sultana, herbs, a bit of smoke and some floral notes. The palate has coffee, sherry and curls of smoke. The finish is delightfully spicy.
