Glen Scotia 27 Years Old Cadenhead’s Authentic Collection 1992

Of the over 30 distilleries that once called Campbeltown home, only two managed to survive until contemporary times; the family-owned Springbank, and Glen Scotia. Having been closed multiple times in its nearly two-century existence, Glen Scotia survived by the skin of its teeth. The distillery was founded in 1832, and was mothballed from 1930 to 1933, from 1984 to 1989 and from 1994 to 1999. Loch Lomond Distillers took over in 1999 and restarted production using the staff from Springbank. From May 2000 onwards, Glen Scotia has run operations with its own staff. Glen Scotia 27 Years Old Cadenhead’s Authentic Collection 1992, is a rare single malt from the couple of years that Glen Scotia operated in the 1990s. The whisky was distilled in 1992 and matured for 27 years in a bourbon hogshead. It was bottled in the summer of 2019, by Cadenhead as part of the Authentic Collection.  The nose is oily and sooty, with aromas of poached pear, marzipan and new leather. The palate is sweet and fruity with a dirty sooty side, revealing notes of wet ash, mango, lychee and a touch of cream. The finish is long with hints of olive oil, wet ash and fruit.
