It came as a bit of a surprise when Glenallachie released the Distillery Edition in early 2017, since it was the distillery’s first official bottling in years. Also surprising was that not long after this release, it was announced that Glenallachie would be taken over by Billy Walker, who had recently sold the BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh distilleries to the American giant Brown-Forman. Glenallachie Distillery Edition is a rare official single malt bottling from a distillery that mainly produces whisky for blends. The label also does not yet have Billy Walker’s trademark capital letter in the middle of the distillery’s name. The Distillery Edition is a no-age statement single malt that matured in traditional ex-bourbon casks and is bottled at 40% ABV.
