We love old whisky distilleries here because they always come with a few crazy tales. Glendronach is one of the oldest in Scotland and was founded by James Allardice in 1826. Since then they’ve been working hard at the art of sherry cask maturation. They’re so well known for it that apparently one of the rooms is haunted by a Spanish lady who came all the way over from Spain in a sherry cask. The drams are so good that she even pours herself a drop every now and then. The distillery is also home to a number of rooks and supposedly as long as they are there, the whisky coming out will be good. They must be onto something because the Glendronach 12 Years Old Original is one fine single malt. This is a warm drop with a sweet nose of creamy vanilla, spicy ginger, apples and figs. The palate is luxurious with full flavours of oak, sherry, raisins and fruit. The finish is long with a nutty hint.
