The art of sherry cask maturation is shrouded in magic and mystery and Glendronach excels as one of the finest exponents of sherry cask maturation in the whisky world. Founded by James Allardice in 1826, the distillery itself is shrouded in a little magic and mystery as well. There is a parliament of rooks who nest in the distillery and keep guard over the stock. They even used to alert the whisky makers when the excise men had arrived. There’s also the Spanish lady that haunts the front room. Apparently she sailed over in one of those sherry casks all the way from Spain. We think she’s just a big fan of the work they do at Glendronach and wanted to be in on the action. Glendronach 28 Years Old Cask Bottling 1993 Cask #6865 is a single cask bottling specially selected by Master Blender Rachel Barrie from Glendronach’s vast stock stretching back to the 1960s. It was aged for 28 years in Oloroso sherry puncheon No. 6865 before being bottled up for us in 2021. There are only 672 bottles out there so it won’t be around for long! You’ll find grapes, raisins and dark chocolate on the nose, with ripe plum, dark chocolate and black cherries on the palate along with a little black truffle.
