While nowadays it’s common to see whiskies bottled at a standard ABV of about 40 to 46%, in the past whiskies were typically presented undiluted. All the single malts in Glendronach’s limited-edition Cask Strength series are presented at natural cask strength, as was the custom in the 19th century. Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 9 is a richly sherried expression, matured in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks and bottled in 2020 at 59.4%. The whisky has aromas of cocoa, liquorice root, baked orange, sultana bread and crème brûlée on the nose. Flavours of treacle toffee and raisin-filled toasted brioche develop into baked apple, bramble pie, butterscotch and star anise. The finish lingers with richly roasted malt, dark chocolate and espresso.
