Glenfarclas 175th Anniversary 2011 is a highly sought-after commemorative bottling released in 2011 for the 175th anniversary of the Glenfarclas distillery. The expression is composed of 18 casks from six different decades, with the oldest cask stemming from 1952. The nose is gentle with well-integrated layers of vanilla, sweet barley sugar, coconut, dark chocolate, subtle oak and light spices. On the palate you’ll find a great balance between the heavy sherry notes from the 1950s and 1960s, the light fruitiness of the 1970s and 1980s, the freshness of the 1990s and the surprising maturity of the youngest casks from 2000. The finish is medium long with hints of apple, mint and cocoa. The Speyside distillery Glenfarclas started production somewhere in the late 18th century. It received a license in 1836, when it was run by Robert Hay. After his death in 1865, the distillery was sold to John Grant and his son George. More than 150 years later Glenfarclas is still in the hands of the Grant family, making it one of the last truly independent distilleries left in Scotland. Only 6000 bottles of Glenfarclas 175th Anniversary 2011 have been released.
