The Great American Rivers were once used to transport oak casks filled with bourbon towards New Orleans. By law, bourbon has to be aged in new barrels, and over the centuries this has created a trade in used bourbon barrels. Thousands of bourbon barrels are now shipped to Scotland each year, in order to lend their sweet aromas and flavours to single malt Scotch. Glenfiddich Age Of Discovery Bourbon Cask celebrates this intertwined history. The single malt aged for 19 years exclusively in ex-bourbon American oak casks, resulting in a refined balance of spicy sweetness and rich dried fruit flavours. On the nose you’ll find aromas of warm toffee, deep citrus, marmalade and fine orange liqueur balanced by dry, smoky oak tannins. The palate reveals intriguing layers of light tannins, rich vanilla pods, fine leather and Havana tobacco. This develops into a sweet, velvety mouthfeel with spicy hints of cardamom and nutmeg. The finish is long and warming.
