Glengoyne is situated right on the dividing line between the Highlands and the Lowlands. Technically the stills are on the Highland side but the warehouse where the whisky ages is on the Lowland side. Originally the distillery was called Burnfoot (ouch!) but it was renamed to the much more pleasant ‘Glengoyne’ which means ‘Valley of the Geese.’ Glengoyne 15 Years Old Chateau Palmer Cask Finish 1997 was distilled in 1997 and aged for 15 years. It was finished in very special red wine Château Palmer casks from the Margaux region. The whisky has a nose of apricots, apple, ginger and wine gums. The palate is sprinkled with cinnamon, orange, gingerbread with a slight bitter twist. It finishes with honeycomb, lemon peel and ginger.
