Glenkinchie 1988 Distillers Edition is a limited-edition single malt from the Lowland distillery Glenkinchie, bottled as part of Diageo’s annual Distillers Edition. It was distilled in 1988 and finished in Amontillado casks, before being bottled in 2001 at 43%. Glenkinchie is a Lowland distillery located in the rural area of East Lothian, just outside of Edinburgh. It was founded in 1825 by two local farmers, the brothers John and George Rate. When the brothers went bankrupt in 1853, they sold the distillery to a farmer named Christie, who converted it into a sawmill. In 1881, a consortium of brewers, blenders and wine merchants from Edinburgh and Leith formed the Glenkinchie Distillery Company and revived the distillery. In the following years, Glenkinchie was rebuilt as a traditional redbrick Victorian distillery, with houses for the workers and even a bowling green. Glenkinchie produces a classic Lowland single malt: elegant, floral, and citrusy.
