Glenlivet is one of the most popular single malts in the world, but that wasn’t always the case. In fact, the distillery’s founder George Smith had made himself quite unpopular among his peers. His was one of the many illicit distilleries in the remote Glenlivet Valley. But when the Excise Act of 1823 was passed, George was the first person to apply for a distilling licence—angering his neighbours, who quietly wanted to continue their illegal distilleries without paying the licence fee. It’s said that he never left his house without a gun… Glenlivet 18 Years Old is an elegant and complex single malt. It matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and French oak casks, resulting in a fragrant nose with aromas of oak, rich fruit and toffee. The palate is smooth and wonderfully balanced, revealing a burst of spices and bitter oranges drying out on oak. Hints of oak and spice linger on the finish.
