Glenlochy Gordon & MacPhail Rare Old 1968-2008, is a rare single malt from the long-closed Glenlochy distillery. The whisky matured for 4 decades in refill sherry hogsheads, before being bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as part of the aptly named Rare Old range. The Glenlochy distillery was founded in 1898 by David McAndie. It was located on the banks of River Nevis and the foot of the Ben Nevis mountain. The distillery closed during the First World War and was reopened in 1937, when Train & MacIntyre Ltd. acquired the company. Distillers Company Ltd. took over in 1953, and mothballed Glenlochy in 1968. The distillery was modernized in the following years, before closed in 1983 when it was converted into a hotel and restaurant. As most of Glenlochy’s spirit was produced for blends, no official bottlings were released during the distillery’s lifetime and independent bottlings remain rare.
