Hakushu is a Japanese mountain forest distillery, located in the foothills of Mount Kaikoma. It was founded in 1973 by Keizo Saji, son of Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii. The unique microclimate and pure mountain water result in a distinctive whisky with fresh herbal notes. Hakushu 12 Years Old is a delicately peated single malt. The expression is made up of unpeated whiskies aged in American oak and Spanish ex-sherry oak casks, and a peated whisky aged in American oak. The result is a foresty and gently smoky dram with aromas of basil, pine needles, green apple, pear and a hint of citrus on the nose. On the palate you’ll find sweet poached pear, mint, kiwi and a subtle smokiness. The finish has green tea and a wisp of smoke. This bottle still comes in the dark green box.
