A beautiful vintage Jamaican rum from the Hampden Distillery, bottled by Edition Spirits for their Kill Devil series. The rum was distilled in 1983 and matured in a single cask for 35 years. It was bottled in 2019 at a cask strength of 58.1%. Only 198 bottles of the Hampden 1983 Kill Devil Single Cask Rum 35 Years Old have been released. The Hampden Estate was established in 1753, making it one of Jamaica’s oldest distilleries. For 250 years it was a family-owned business, but after financial troubles in the early 2000s the government assumed ownership. They sold the company again in 2009 to Everglades Farms Ltd., who released the distillery’s first official bottling in 2018. The independent bottling company Edition Spirits Ltd. was founded by Andrew and Scott Laing, the sons of Hunter Laing director Stewart Laing. Their Kill Devil series features a diverse range of vintage single cask rums. In the early 17th century, a Caribbean drink distilled from sugar was known as ‘kill devil’; the first record of the word ‘rum’ only came a couple of decades later, in 1688. The more you know! Due to the size of this release, is takes up two spots in a parcel.
