The Silent Stills range from independent bottler Signatory Vintage, and is dedicated to rare single malts from Scotland’s closed distilleries. Located in Montrose, this Highland distillery went by many names during its existence. It was founded in 1897, as the Highland Esk Distillery. It was acquired in 1899, by J.F. Caille Heddle, who renamed it North Esk. After being closed during the First World War, the distillery was bought by Associated Scottish Distilleries who re-equipped it to produce grain whisky and reopened it in 1938 as Montrose. The distillery was transferred to Scottish Malt Distillers in 1964, who changed it back to a malt distillery called Hillside. It was renamed Glen Esk in 1980, and was shut down five years later. Hillside 28 Years Old Silent Stills 1971 was distilled on 8 February 1971, and matured for 28 years in cask #1508. It was bottled on 1 February 2000 at 51.4%. This set comes with a 5cl miniature bottle and a replica bung. One of just 242 bottles.
