When the good folks over at Jack Daniel’s heard about some whisky contest in Brussels, Belgium, they sent Herb Fanning, a distillery legend that worked there until he was 93 years old. Herb delivered: he took home the Gold Medal. According to Mr. Herb, when the folks in the advertising department found out he had pulled whiskey for the competition off the bottling line, they were a bit upset and asked why he hadn’t looked for some special whiskey for the judging. He exclaimed: ‘Why all Jack Daniel’s is special!’ Jack Daniel’s was awarded its sixth Gold Medal, the 1954 Star of Excellence. This Jack Daniel’s 1954 Gold Medal came out in 2005 and is an hommage to the 1954 win. It comes in a beautiful one litre decanter.
