Look! It’s 18-year-old Stitzel-Weller, distilled in 1991! This Jefferson’s 18yo is the second edition of the Jefferson’s legendary Presidential Collection that was first bottled in 2010. Over 18 years after the famous Stitzel-Weller Distilley closed its doors (in 1992), the producers of Jefferson’s bourbons found a few barrels of the Sitzel-Weller wheated bourbon. It is rumored that this release holds the last remaining Stitzel-Weller stock…
But why does everyone go nuts about this fabled distillery? And why should you? It was founded by Pappy van Winkle – that surely helps to build a myth. What also helped, was that their juice was of extremely good quality. They were one of the first to come out with a very good wheat-based recipe. They were keen on putting their whiskey in a barrel at a pretty low proof of 107. Just like Buffalo Trace, they used iron-cladded warehouses, which are known for great temperature fluctuations. This list goes on and on.
