Kilchoman Inaugural Release

Kilchoman Inaugural Release is the very first single malt release from Kilchoman, Islay’s farm-to-bottle distillery. The whisky has been aged for 3 years in fresh bourbon barrels from the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky, and finished for 5 months in Oloroso sherry butts. It was bottled in September 2009 at 46%. On the nose, you’ll find aromas of wood smoke, medicinal flavours, rich dark fruits, lemon and orange. The palate is remarkably viscous, with notes of peat smoke, dark fruits, sultanas and creamy toffee. The finish is long and leaves a clean lingering aftertaste. Kilchoman was established in 2005 on the north-west coast of Islay. Staying true to the island’s rich farm distilling heritage, the distillery produces its whisky in the traditional way. The barley is grown on-site at Rockside Farm and malted at Port Ellen as well as at the distillery’s own traditional floor maltings. The whisky is matured in traditional dunnage warehouses and bottled on-site. Only 8450 bottles of the Kilchoman Inaugural Release have been released.
