Kilkerran 8 Years Old Cask Strength Batch #6 is the sixth cask strength release from the newly reopened Glengyle distillery. The whisky aged for 8 years in sherry casks and was bottled in February 2022 at 58.1%. The nose kicks off with aromatic citrus, joined by hints of orange peel, marmalade and pepper. The whisky is rich on the palate with notes of barbecued meats, sticky honey glaze and demerara sugar. Subtle peat smoke continues on the finish with notes of soot and burnt embers. The Campbeltown distillery Glengyle was founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, but closed in 1925 and was dormant for 79 years. In 2004, William Mitchell’s great-great nephew Hedley Wright decided to revive the old distillery. Because the Glengyle brand had since been taken over by Loch Lomond Distillers, Glengyle’s single malts are now bottled under the name Kilkerran, from the Gaelic Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain (‘head of the lake of Saint Kieran’s cell’), the name of a medieval settlement where Campbeltown stands today.
