Kilkerran 8 Years Old Cask Strength Batch #7 is the seventh cask strength release from the newly reopened Campbeltown distillery Glengyle. The whisky aged for 8 years in port casks and was bottled in February 2022 at 57.9%. Kilkerran 8 Years Old Cask Strength Batch #7 is earthy on the nose, opening up to notes of redcurrants and Parma ham. Rich notes of dark fruit cake, cherry and chocolate develop on the palate. The earthiness carries through on the finish, along with a hint of pepper. The original Glengyle distillery was founded by William Mitchell in 1872. It closed less than 50 years later and was subsequently silent for almost 80 years. In 2004, Hedley Wright (a great-great nephew of William Mitchell) rebuilt and reopened the Glengyle distillery. Kilkerran comes from the Gaelic Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain (‘head of the lake of Saint Kieran’s cell’), the name of a medieval settlement where Campbeltown stands today.
