The Fuji Gotemba distillery is nestled at the foot of Mt. Fuji. It was founded in 1972 by Kirin Brewery, Seagram and Chivas Brothers as a comprehensive whisky manufacturing plant where every part of the production process takes place on site. When Seagram began selling off its beverage assets in the early 2000s, Kirin took sole ownership of the distillery. Fuji Gotemba produces both malt and grain whisky. The output is mainly intended for blends, but occasionally Kirin releases a single malt from the distillery. Kirin 18 Years Old is one of these rare Fuji Gotemba single malts. On the nose, the whisky has rich aromas of red berries, pineapple, melon, cocoa, vanilla and cereals. The palate is creamy and well-balanced with ripe fruits, blueberries, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon and soft peat smoke. The finish is sweet and drying.
