In 1605, Carthusian monks received an old manuscript that contained a mysterious recipe for an ‘elixir of long life’. This elixir eventually became the famous French liqueur Chartreuse, named after the monks’ Grande Chartreuse monastery. Élixir Végétal de la Grande-Chartreuse is made up of 130 different plants, bark, roots, spices and flowers, and is bottled at a punchy 69% ABV.
