Lagavulin 12 Years Old Diageo 2002 Special Release is a limited-edition single malt from the Islay distillery Lagavulin, released in 2002 as part of Diageo’s Special Releases. The whisky matured for 12 years and is bottled at a cask strength of 58% ABV. The Lagavulin distillery was founded in 1816 by John Johnston. In 1825, John Johnston bought the adjacent Ardmore distillery (not to be confused with the Highland distillery of the same name). A couple of years later, the two distilleries merged to form the Lagavulin distillery we know today. The distillery became part of Distillers Company Limited in 1927, now known as Diageo.
