Lagavulin 12 Years Old White Horse Distillers Spanish Import is a wonderful old style Lagavulin whisky from the 1970s or 1980s, bottled under the legendary White Horse name. White Horse started out as a popular blended whisky, introduced in the late 1880s by Lagavulin distiller Peter Mackie. When Mackie died in 1924, Mackie & Co. Distillers changed its name to White Horse Distillers Ltd. to reflect the success of the White Horse brand. White Horse was acquired by Distillers Company Limited in 1927, but the association remained strong and older Lagavulin bottlings still held the White Horse name until Diageo took over. The company was eventually dissolved in 2010. While the label might show some signs of wear and tear, we’d prefer to say that it shows character and personality, just like those old rapscallions who used to tend to the illegal Lagavulin stills.
