This Lagavulin 1993 Special Release came out in 2009 as a special release limited edition. It was double matured for up to 6 months in Pedro Ximenez Sherry Wood and it was bottled under batch number lgv. 4/497 at 16 years old. Newer 16-year-old Lagavulin are reportedly of lesser quality than these older medicinal gems. The Lagavulin distillery on Islay was founded in 1816 by John Johnston. In 1825, John Johnston bought the adjacent Ardmore distillery (not to be confused with the Highland distillery of the same name). A couple of years later, the two distilleries merged to form the Lagavulin distillery we know today. The distillery became part of Distillers Company Limited in 1927, today known as Diageo. Please note: this Lagavulin 1993 Special Release 16 Years Old comes without the box, so bottle only. But you can’t taste a box anyway (or at least you shouldn’t), so does it really matter?
