The annual Jazz Festival on Islay is sponsored by Lagavulin. Each year, the distillery releases an exclusive commemorative bottling for the event. The 2021 edition is a 13-year-old single malt, matured in refill American oak and finished in ex-Mezcal barrels, a first for the distillery. It is bottled at a cask strength of 54.8%. The Mezcal casks have given Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival 2021 a distinctive and unusual flavour profile. The nose is smoky and meaty, with aromas of linseed oil and fragrant smoke. The whisky has a smooth and rich texture, with sweet, savoury and warming notes, as well as hints of smoke, spicy wood and smoke-dried jalapeño pepper. The finish is long with a new-found heat and lingering smokiness. Only 3000 bottles have been released.
