Laphroaig 30 Years Old 2016 is a limited-edition single malt from the Islay distillery Laphroaig. The whisky was distilled in October 1985 and matured twice in ex-bourbon barrels over the course of 30 years, giving it a profound character with notes of toasted almond, sage, and a touch of peat. Laphroaig 30 Years Old 2016 was bottled in May 2016 at a cask strength of 53.5%. In 1815, brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston founded the Laphroaig distillery on their farmland on the south coast of Islay. They were already growing barley as feed for their cattle, so they decided to distil whisky from the surplus barley. Laphroaig stayed in the hands of the Johnston family for the next 139 years. When Ian Hunter, the last member of the Johnston family to run the distillery, died childless in 1954, he left Laphroaig to distillery manager Bessie Williamson.
