Laphroaig 33 Years Old Book 3 is the third release in the Ian Hunter Story series, which celebrates the legacy of the last member of the Johnston family to own and manage the Laphroaig distillery. Book 3: Source Protector tells the story of the Kilbride Stream, Laphroaig’s invaluable water source. Following a decades-long feud with neighbouring distillery Lagavulin, which involved Lagavulin diverting the Kilbride Stream in 1907, Ian Hunter purchased the land leading up to the stream. He dammed the stream in 1930 to ensure the water source was protected, creating the Kilbride Reservoir. Laphroaig 33 Years Old Book 3 was distilled in 1987 and matured for 33 years in ex-bourbon barrels. It was bottled in September 2021 at 49.9%. The whisky is balanced and complex, with notes of peaty aniseed and creamy liquorice. Only 4800 bottles of Laphroaig 33 Years Old Book 3 have been released.
