Bessie Williamson was the first female manager of a Scotch whisky distillery ever, and the only woman to own and run a distillery in the 20th century. In 1934, when she was 23, she started working at the Laphroaig Distillery as a shorthand typist. She worked her way up to office manager. When the distillery’s owner – Ian Hunter – had a stroke in 1938, she took on greater responsibilities. Just before the start of World War II, she was made the distillery’s full-time manager. Under her management, the distillery saw many upgrades and successes overseas. This 25-year-old single malt, released exclusively for Global Travellers in 2019, celebrates the lasting impact Bessie Williamson made on the Laphroaig Distillery and the whisky industry as a whole. The bottle comes in a special book detailing Williamson’s story and is the second release in the Book Series, after the Ian Hunter Story. Please note: due to the size of this release, it takes up two spaces in a parcel.
