Long Pond 7 Years Old Planteray Rum 2017 Cask #13 is a rare Jamaican rum from the Long Pond distillery, bottled by Planteray Rum. It carries the VRW (Vale Royale Wedderburn) marque and has an ester level of 191 g/hl AA. The rum first aged in bourbon barrels in a tropical climate for 6 months, and was then shipped to the south-west of France to further mature in French oak Ferrand casks for 5 years and 10 months. This special edition received a third maturation: it spent 8 months in a Kentucky bourbon cask before being bottled in 2024 at 52%. Long Pond 7 Years Old Planteray Rum 2017 Cask #13 is intensely fruity on the nose. Tropical fruits are intertwined with overripe orchard fruits, joined by hints of rich vanilla, nutmeg and caramel. The rum has a nice Jamaican funk on the palate, with an abundance of pineapple and citrus, starfruit and lemongrass alongside cider apple and cherry notes. Allspice, light caramel, tobacco and cinnamon contribute to its complex and layered flavour. Citrus notes linger on the finish, complemented by hints of smoke and cinnamon with creamy custard, coffee, almonds and a touch of pepper.
