Longmorn 26 Years Old Cadenhead Small Batch is a single malt from the Longmorn distillery in Speyside, bottled by Cadenhead for their Small Batch series. The whisky was distilled in 1987 and matured in bourbon hogsheads for 26 years. Cadenhead bottled it in October 2013 at 49.5% ABV. Only 402 bottles were released.
The Longmorn distillery was founded in 1983 by John Duff & Company, who had already established Glenlossie some years earlier. The distillery is built on the site of a medieval chapel in the small village of Longmorn. The origin of the town’s (and the distillery’s) name is disputed. It either means ‘Holy Well’ or ‘The Place of the Holy Man’ in Gaelic. Another theory is that the name is an anglicization of Lann Marnoch, a church built in the 7th century in honor of the missionary Maernanaog, who is said to have brought Christianity to the area. Or perhaps it’s a combination of all of this… Okay, enough of that. You’re here for whisky, not historical linguistics.
